3 tips to Make 2021 Resolutions Achievable

We all look forward to the new year because it gives a chance to reset our lives. We often make new year’s resolutions. Things that we want to change so we can have better lives. They say that most of us don’t stick with our resolutions only a few weeks into the new year. In 2021 you can achieve a few of your goals Here are three tips that will help you to stick with your resolutions.

Tip #1 Start Small and Make it Achievable

Make your resolutions achievable. If its losing weight start with a few pounds and set your goal at an achievable pace. As an example, you could set your goal for 5 to 10 pounds which is what most of us gain during the holidays. So getting back to your average weight is a good start. And setting a time frame of a month or two is also achievable for most people. Start a healthy eating habit or exercise routine. If its improving your finances, you could start with paying down the smallest debt and not taking on any new debt. The extra monthly cash you have can be put into a savings or investment account. Its better to put it somewhere you won’t think about taking it out and make it an automatic payment to your savings or investment account. Make this your financial habit. One thing I did when I was starting out was to “write” a check to myself every month. I didn’t really write the check, I just deducted it from my balance. At the end of the year, there was a decent amount of money in the account that I could do all my Christmas shopping and have money left over. So Tip #1, start small, make it achievable, and make it a habit.

Tip #2 Do Something that Heals your Soul

Since the From Good to Great philosophy is about prospering your soul, my second tip would be to do something that heals and prospers your soul. If you have read my book, From Good to Great, you understand that your soul can hold you back from achieving your goals. It isn’t just a mental state but it is because there are also subconscious issues that are stopping you from doing the things you want to do and causes you to do the things you don’t. Let’s focus on the losing a few pounds goal. It could be that there is something deeper that is causing you to hold on to the weight either by over eating or lack of exercise.

Take the time to do something that heals your soul. Here are a few simple things you can do. Listen to classical music. Meditate and breathe deeply. Forgive and let go of something that has been bothering you, Give yourself some grace. Laugh heartily. and joyfully. Look and feel the sunrise or sunset, gaze at the night sky, be amazed at the beauty and complexity of life, a flower, an insect, a baby, find love in good friendships, family, in old acquaintances, find peace in the quiet moments of your life and breathe in deeply. Allow your soul to drink deeply from love, serenity, joy, and peace. Tip #2 Take time to heal and improve the condition of your soul.

Tip #3 Find God in the Quiet and Small Moments of Life

We often look for God in a far away place, when he is right there with you. He is there when you have no one to turn to. He is there when you can’t see any way out of your situation. He is right there with you hoping that you will see him, hear him, He is there in the bright moments of life. He is also there in the dark moments of life. Listen for his still small voice and write down what you hear for your New Year’s resolutions or goals.

A good practice is seek him early in the morning, when you first wake up take a moment to talk to God and and quiet your mind and listen. You will often get insight into something of importance to you. Don’t forget to write it down quickly or you may forget. Keep a pad and pen close by like on your nightstand. Make 2021 the year your start to really hear God’s call for your life. When you feel like giving in or giving up ask God for strength and perseverance. Finally, tip #3 get close to God and look for him in the small quiet moments of life.

Have a great 2021!
